Colder times are usually a relief for some hyperhidrosians. It’s usually easier to regulate the warmth and sweating with layered outfits. It’s a huge difference if you think about the summer heat. However, the fight against excessive sweating remains present.

Autumn and winter are an exciting season for members of hyperhidrosis society. Many possibilities open during this period, especially in November, hyperhidrosis awareness month.

Big steps forward in the fight against excessive sweating are happening daily. You can check all the latest news on the hyperhidrosis society website.

One of our main missions at Hidroxa is to make our customers feel safe and comfortable.

best iontophoresis machine

Many people wonder if iontophoresis treatments are going to work for them. For those who can not access the clinic to test the machine, we offer a 50-day money-back guarantee. Besides, our customer support is always available for guidance, tips, and advice on best practices.

We are planning to expand our collaboration with more clinics in Scandinavia to start with. We aim for future cooperation with clinics across Europe and worldwide as well. Hopefully, more patients will be able to try out the iontophoresis device before deciding whether they want to purchase it. Now, back to the trips and tricks for dealing with sweat in the winter.

Tips for dealing with excessive sweating in the winter

  1. Choose your clothing wisely
  2. Avoid foods that contribute to body odor
  3. Consider changes to your medical treatments
  4. Talk to your doctor

Choose your clothing wisely

hyperhidrosis in winter

Your outfit choices can be both your friend and enemy when it comes to handling the sweat in colder times. Particularly when you’re switching a lot between indoors and outdoors.

Some colors and materials could help your skin breathe and hide that you’re sweating.

Others may play against your favor, even if you’re not sweating that much.

Some people with severe hyperhidrosis buy several shirts of the same kind to be able to switch their clothing multiple times during one day without anyone noticing.

Which colors to wear if you’re sweating excessively?

White is one of the few light colors that won’t show your sweat stains as much. However, if the color of the clothing is too bright like yellow, light blue and green, pink, etc. it will become harder to hide the stains.

If your stains aren’t transparent, bright colors like blue, white, green, pink, red, olive, and especially gray are the worst choice.

When it comes to dark colors black, navy, dark brown are one of the best options to hide sweat.

Consider wearing patterns

Patterns like camouflage, floral, checkered, paisley, plaid, and snake print can help you to become a master of disguise. They might not help you sweat less, but they can help you feel less nervous because they won’t show the fact that you’re sweating.

Fabrics that are good choice if you’re sweating

Moisture wicking fabrics:

  • Merino Wool
  • Bamboo
  • Wool

These fabrics “pull sweat away from your body” and are also natural fabrics. They won’t produce as much as unpleasant smells like the artificial ones if you’re suffering from Bromhidrosis as well.

Breathable fabrics:

  • Cotton
  • Linen
  • Rayon

These fabrics are great if you want to let your skin “breathe”. Any possible body odor (bugging people that suffer from both hyperhidrosis and bromhidrosis) will evaporate much faster.

Most of people with hyperhidrosis usually don’t have a problem with odor. In some cases, it can be a possible issue if sweat isn’t coming from the feet.

Foul smelling sweat is a condition named Bromhidrosis.

Fabrics that contribute to smell and odor production and might be good to avoid:

  • Polypropylene
  • Nylon
  • Polyester

Wear layers

The weather is the most unpredictable in this season. Wearing layers is an effective strategy to stay comfortable in the winter. Frequent changes in temperature are harder to handle if you haven’t chosen your layers wisely. Here are the tips for clothing layers to help in the fight against sweating above normal:

  • Wear an undershirt and undergarments under your outfit. They can often absorb a certain amount of sweat, so the amount of sweat on the surface will lessen.
  • Consider bringing a jacket with you. When the sweat starts to act crazy, and you’re in a hurry for a meeting or an important appointment, you can put the jacket on to feel more comfortable. Bonus tip: If your jacket has pockets, you can put a handkerchief in it to wipe the sweat out of your face or palms.

Avoid drinks that contribute to your body sweating

Alcohol consumption affects the central nervous system, widens blood vessels, which causes the body temperature to increase. To fight off the temperature, our bodies produce more sweat to cool us off.

According to alcohol.org, the mechanism isn’t fully known yet.

With diminished levels of this enzyme, it’s thought that certain toxic metabolic by-products build up in the body and can cause flushing in the skin.

Some people experience less sweating when they are consuming alcoholic beverages. This happens because they feel relaxed and their sympathetic nervous system is calm.

Consider changes to your hyperhidrosis treatments

hyperhidrosis treatment

Different temperatures can produce changes in the way you sweat. Sometimes, colder times like autumn are a time of relief for some people, because their sweating decreases. For others, it can be the exact opposite. There can be no sign of any changes in the sweating level.

Being careful with what you’re wearing and eating will probably not be enough to deal successfully with hyperhidrosis.

As the first step of your anti-sweat mission, you can try using prescribed antiperspirants or over-the-counter antiperspirants. Other types of medications could help to have more control over your sweating.

Usually, at this step, most people find themselves disappointed seeing minimal or no results at all. These medications often aren’t enough to treat this medical condition.

If you’re already using medications, and you see that this effect is wearing off, you should consider researching other options. If you have the opportunity to do so in your area, look for a doctor with experience in hyperhidrosis treatment to advise you about treatment options.

Talk to your doctor about excessive sweating

Using medications properly is the most important thing when it comes to fighting hyperhidrosis – excessive sweating. If you’re considering adding extra medications to your treatment plan or intensifying the use of the existing ones, you should talk to a doctor specialized in this area. Sometimes, depending on the type of the treatment or medication, you can experience no changes at all. Some medication can cause hyperhidrosis as a side effect.

However, if a person is dealing with other serious conditions, it is necessary for them to continue taking them. In these situations, it’s essential to learn how to manage the increased level of sweat. Hyperhidrosis that is a result of taking medications is known as secondary hyperhidrosis.

The doctor can explain to you the possible benefits and disadvantages of using the medication in general. Also, they can educate you about the particular effect in the time of the year like winter.

Conclusion

Winter symbolizes more relaxed times for most people who are suffering from excessive sweating, but the fight against it continues. It’s easier to hide the sweat stains and feel less ashamed by wearing particular colors and layers. The most important thing is to think up-front so you’re ready at every moment.

Thinking carefully about the colors and layers while dressing is a good tactic to cover up a sweat. However, it won’t help you lessen the sweat level significantly. That’s why it is important to use medications or treatments that can help you take control of your excessive sweating.

Before considering any adjustments to your treatment plan, reach out to your doctor. They can present you with information on certain medications and treatment options.

November is famous for its multiple health awareness campaigns. In hyperhidrosis society, it is also a favorite month of the year, known as a hyperhidrosis awareness month.

The most famous is “No-Shave November” that has a goal of growing awareness about cancer.

The word about excessive sweating disperses the most at this time of the year.

As a family business with people close to us affected by hyperhidrosis, we work hard to spread the word about the seriousness of excessive sweating.

Every step forward to educating as many people as possible about this condition could provide a chance for someone to find the right treatment.

Therefore, hyperhidrosis awareness month is the biggest opportunity to spread the word about this condition.

hyperhidrosis patients

Over the years, we’ve had a chance to work with many people from Sweden and Scandinavia

With time we’ve broadened our mission to spread hyperhidrosis awareness worldwide. Patients deserve to get the chance to get the right diagnosis and information.

Unfortunately, not every treatment is suitable for everyone.

However, every person that has damaged life quality because of excessive sweating deserves information about treatment options.

Since there is still a lot of research about this condition going on, we’ve listed 3 little-known facts about excessive sweating.

1. The silent handicap

Did you know that diagnosis of excessive sweating is also famous as “the silent handicap”?

Imagine not being able to choose the clothing you like, greet people close to you, choose a career you prefer. Imagine feeling stressed out most of the time.

Moreover, it is just a tiny layer of what sweating beyond regular does to those affected by this condition.

If you’re not familiar with this diagnosis, the name “silent handicap” might not be obvious. People who have hyperhidrosis, don’t usually talk about it.

It can be seriously upsetting to struggle daily with basic tasks. It’s even harder to feel scared or ashamed, staying silent about it, and dealing with it on your own.

2. The exact reason for primary hyperhidrosis is unknown

This fact might be not strange to you if you’re familiar with excessive sweating.

However, if you’ve just started your research, it might be hard to believe it. It’s nerve-wracking that a medical condition that affects so many people is still so unfamiliar.

People affected by this type of excessive sweating have heard multiple times words like:

“You’re stressed. You have it because of that.”

“It’s just puberty, it’ll pass.”

“You’re overweight, that’s why you have it.”

hyperhidrosis areas

Sometimes, the reasons above can increase sweating but they are not the cause of primary hyperhidrosis.

These people have often tried to lose weight and have done everything to not feel stressed. They do everything to improve their health, but their sweat problems remained.

Several medical papers suggest that a genetic origin might be, partly, a reason for transmission of sweat level above regular. However, more research is crucial to the mission to explore this area.

3. More than 250 million people in the world suffer from hyperhidrosis

Information about the “silent handicap” isn’t familiar enough amongst health-care systems. The number of people suffering from extreme sweating and not getting help is surprisingly high.

This number is ten times the population of Australia.

Sadly, a big amount of people aren’t aware that there is help to get.

Some of them aren’t even aware that their state of sweating too much is a medical condition.

Others know that a high level of sweat isn’t normal. However, they don’t know that there are clinics that they can reach out to and get a diagnosis and treatment.

Times in a year like hyperhidrosis awareness month, are a grand opportunity to spread knowledge about this shameful disease. Unfortunately, it can seriously damage the life quality of people.

What can you do to raise hyperhidrosis awareness?

If you are affected by hyperhidrosis, you can join the Hyperhidrosis Patient Association in your country/region.

More members strengthen the possibility of pushing the issue of hyperhidrosis patients’ situations where you live.

If you feel comfortable speaking about your suffering and problems with hyperhidrosis with your surroundings, it can help you normalize the condition and make others with hyperhidrosis open up.

If you have a person close to you that has hyperhidrosis, it’s important to communicate with your loved ones about their condition.

It’s critical not to accuse your loved ones of being responsible for their situation because they’re stressed or overweight, etc.

We try to spread as much knowledge as we can on our blog, website, and social media.

When we started helping people with hyperhidrosis, our starting point was the Nordic area.

Emmili Yoshiguchi together with Dr. Sandra Eriksson Mirkovic, run Svettpoden (The Sweat Podcast) and covered issues connected to this condition.

We hope that an English version of this podcast will be available soon.

Together we can make sure that everyone who’s affected by hyperhidrosis gets the right diagnosis, information, and help.

Gothenburg, Sweden – September 1, 2020 – We are excited and proud to announce the launch of the new Hidroxa website.

Our primary mission is to share our expertise and knowledge about hyperhidrosis with those who are struggling to find the right treatment option.

In recent times we’ve seen a higher demand for our iontophoresis products. That is why we decided to refresh our brand identity in order to better reflect who we are.

As a dynamic, healthcare-oriented company, we felt it was the perfect time to modernize our visual identity.

After consideration, we have chosen a new modern logo with a key element of a sweat drop. The drop symbolizes the daily struggle against excessive sweating.

Along with announcing our new brand identity, we have revamped our company’s website.

While our name remains the same, our logo and website have changed significantly to better represent who Hidroxa is. We improved the way we help clients in their everyday struggles in order to regain their confidence.

The most important part of our work is customer care and getting valuable feedback from our clients.

Listening to their stories made us realize how hyperhidrosis has changed the quality of people’s lives. We understand how hard it is to find trustworthy sources about treatment options.

Therefore, we got the motivation to provide useful information and tips on improving the quality of life for hyperhidrosis patients.

The new website delivers more useful content in a modern, clean, and organized layout. It’s builded provide visitors with easy access to our company information.

The website is highlighting a cost-effective and natural solution to excessive sweating of the palms, feet, and underarms.

Building a Team of Experts around the Iontophoresis Machine

In addition to the new website launch and social media handles, we’ve decided to expand our team.

Our goal is to provide every client with relevant information and support they deserve practicing iontophoresis.

Hidroxa is a family-owned company.

The most important colleague of ours, and also a co-founder of the company is Dr. Sandra Eriksson Mirkovic. Sandra is a licensed physician with a special interest in hyperhidrosis.

Daily, Sandra works as a general practitioner. Sandra actively supports Hidroxa’s customer service by communicating with patients about maximizing the effectiveness of their treatments.

Jimmy Eriksson is a COO/Electrical engineer, and co-founder, and married to Sandra. Jimmy is responsible for the organizational processes in the company and also for quality assurance of our products.

Nikola Mirkovic, Sandra’s brother, and Hidroxa’s CEO is an expert in e-commerce. Nikola has a rich background from his own web agency ZenDev.

Thanks to Nikola’s digital efforts and skill Hidroxa’s products have helped a great number of people on a global scale.

We value your feedback

As stated above, we value the customer’s feedback about the lack of scientifically proven information and relevant content.

We have decided to expand our original team with a marketing team of young and ambitious individuals.

Primarily, we are motivated to engage with people suffering from hyperhidrosis through digital tools and social media.

With years of experience that our co-founder Dr. Sandra Eriksson Mirkovic has, we realized how hard the situation is.

From the beginning, we have learned that people suffering from hyperhidrosis are left to themselves to find information.

Unfortunately, this practice is still present.

Lack of interest from the health care system leads the patients to think there isn’t suitable treatment available.

Because of that, patients often give up getting help.

There are many different treatment options available, and one of our main goals is to provide useful information on hyperhidrosis.

We want to address patient concerns associated with this condition through communication with our physician Sandra and her team.

There is a solution to this situation, even though there isn’t a cure at the moment.

There are many possibilities available for the patient’s health to improve.

Moving forward with regular blog updates

Hyperhidrosis – excessive sweating is also known as a “silent handicap”. True to that statement – this condition isn’t getting enough spotlight.

Many healthcare systems aren’t investing resources in fighting against this condition.

It is one of the many reasons why patients lack opportunity and information about controlling their sweating.

For that reason, we’re planning to educate as many people as possible about hyperhidrosis and iontophoresis through our blog.

The categories on the blog will cover multiple areas such as hand sweat, feet sweat, armpit sweat, life-quality impacts. The latest discoveries about hyperhidrosis will also be included.

Collaboration with well-known sweat clinics

In many countries worldwide, as well as in Sweden, iontophoresis is often a forgotten treatment method. It has the potential to help the masses.

It is crucial to spread the knowledge about it to the fullest extent.

Our team at Hidroxa is making big efforts to expand information to hospitals and other clinics about iontophoresis. We want to make this excellent treatment method available to as many people as possible.

Our company is actively working to upgrade the clinics specializing in treating hyperhidrosis with respect to various treatment options.

Treatments like MiraDry, injections can work well for the treatment of general and focal hyperhidrosis. Accordingly, we collaborated with the dermatology department at Oslo University hospital in Norway.

We have reached out to several clinics and hospitals in Sweden. Among others, we’re negotiating collaboration with Sahlgrenska university hospital in Gothenburg and Helsingborg hospital. Thus, we are looking forward to establishing a successful collaboration with them as well.

In the future, we are planning to expand our collaboration and reach out to more clinics in Sweden, and Scandinavia.

Our collaborations are an important part of guaranteeing the delivery of correct information to patients. Above all, it is important when they are reaching out to their health caretakers.

About us

Hidroxa Medical AB started as a small, family-owned company from Gothenburg, Sweden. In 2015 the idea of bringing iontophoresis devices to Scandinavia was formed.

The possibilities of receiving treatment for one’s excessive sweating, hyperhidrosis are limited. We were aware that the problem with hyperhidrosis was common.

Several people around us suffer from hyperhidrosis and we had seen how hard it was for them to find help.

Some methods of treating hyperhidrosis require to be performed in clinics. Using an iontophoresis device is possible in the comfort of people’s own homes.
